No festivals this year
(To avoid crowding means
no mass celebrations)
When people gathers in a crowd for anything people just enjoy. From those drinking and under the influence of alcohol to public speakers including spiritual preachers everybody simply enjoys in one way or the other. For instance, in an event such as Kut (chavang kut) program, revelers under certain level of “kicks” enjoy the shows. Public speakers, singers and different types of artists too enjoy doing their parts when it’s a huge gathering. Spiritual speakers too enjoy delivering their message when the audience inside the church building or hall is big. This is the nature of man. The present situation the world over suggests that there would be no crowd gatherings in the near future due to the pandemic which shows no sign of disappearance but getting more and more serious only. It is almost a foregone conclusion that there would be no Kut, Christmas or New Year celebrations this coming season the way it used to be celebrated. This is not because people are no longer interested in crowd gathering celebration events but because situation simply won’t permit it. Crowding is the most dangerous thing for now. This is why big crowding market places in the state capital like the triple Ima Keithels have been closed since the lockdown began. It is altogether a different matter the vendors of the Ima keithel have threatened to open the markets by bulldozing method if the authority (government) failed to pave way for opening the same within a stipulated time-frame. People will never follow the prescribed government guidelines such as maintaining social distance, wearing mask, sanitizing their hands and all other covid precautions if the crowding places are open again.
The inter-district bus services though resumed after months of lockdown initially showed few takers fearing the potential covid contract. The equally increasing number of covid cured people seems to hardly make people the less scared. Schools and higher educational institutions are still closed and perhaps would continue to remain so till some time more. The church, one of the main places of worship for many, too remained closed and likely to continue for some more time. This is because educational institutions and churches are crowding places where it would be difficult to maintain strict social distancing protocols, etc. Apart from these “essential public gatherings”, unavoidable crowd gathering events such as marriage programs and funerals are conducted with a number of restrictions to keep off crowding. Non-essential Cinema and entertainment centers too continue to remain shut and unlikely to reopen soon. Nature has taught humanity great lessons this way, this time. No merry-making in crowding events under intoxicants, no earthly “enjoyment” under religious events.
